Three trains a morning get you into Paddington before 09:00, and the 05:27 is the one that makes a 07:00 start in central London possible. The later a train leaves, the quicker it runs, because the early services make more stops down the Golden Valley.

What a ticket costs

Advance singles are cheaper again if you commit to a specific train: the cheapest tier on the 09:34 was £49.50 when checked, against £80.00 on the peak 07:25. Advance tickets sell in fixed price bands, so the earlier you book the more likely the bottom band is still there.

The ticket office opens 06:30 to 18:00 Monday to Friday and 07:15 to 14:30 on Saturdays, and closes on Sundays, with ticket machines outside those hours.
